Are you a 5-minute-or-less kind of girl?
Is there a particular product you will always have in your bag, such as an iconic lipstick?
Less. Is. More.
I personally have 15 items in my makeup bag and no more because I want to grab items I could wear for every day or going out. This self-analysis will help you build a makeup collection that caters specifically to your requirements.

And it could be causing your skin to have issues if you’re not taking inventory of your products often enough. Here are some general expiration guidelines for products:
Mascara = 3 months
Eyeliners = 3-6 months
Liquid foundation = 6-12 months
Powders (foundation, eye shadows, blush) = 18-24 months
